Comprehensive Eye Exam
A comprehensive eye exam by a doctor of optometry is an important part of caring for your eyes, vision, and overall health. Periodic eye and vision examinations are an important part of preventive health care. Many eye and vision problems have no obvious signs or symptoms, so you might not know a problem exists.
Early diagnosis and treatment of eye and vision problems can help prevent vision loss. Each patient’s signs and symptoms, along with your doctor’s professional judgement, will determine what tests are conducted.
At ExaminEyes, after evaluating your past medical and vision history, we conduct a careful refraction to give you prescriptions for various types of glasses based on your vision needs. Some examples might include single vision distance glasses for driving or golfing, single vision near glasses for reading or sewing, progressive or bifocal glasses for seeing both distance and near, or even customized computer progressives to see the computer monitor and documents that are even closer.
We may also be able to fit contact lenses which give you an alternative to wearing glasses. Most patients who are found to have a healthy ocular surface are suitable for wearing contacts. At ExaminEyes we routinely fit patients with contacts who need vision correction for farsightedness, nearsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia (a reading vision problem normally evident in the over age 40 population). Or if you simply want to change your look with a different eye color, we can help you with colored contact lenses too.
Some other supplemental vision tests that are sometimes warranted in the routine exam, or for patients who may need to meet certain standards for certain careers or DMV purposes, for example, may include evaluation of depth perception, color vision, eye muscle posture, peripheral vision, and pupil testing.
Routine Testing for Glaucoma
At ExaminEyes we check your eye fluid pressure within your eyes to check for glaucoma. We also have visual field testing which confirms the status of your peripheral vision.
Eye Health Evaluation
At ExaminEyes we use the latest Optos technology to obtain excellent imaging of the back of the eyes to assess the health of the retina. This testing can even be performed without using dilation drops; therefore, there are no side effects.
Optos technology is extremely helpful in ruling out any retinal problems, including diabetic or hypertensive retinal changes. This part of the exam is imperative to truly see an expansive view of the back of the eye. Again, no drops or side effects will be incurred with the use of the Optos technology.
