Diabetic Eye Care
Whether you are concerned with how your eyes look inside because you have diabetes or if you are totally unaware whether you have diabetes, the testing we do in checking your overall eye health will also allow us to see if you have any diabetic related findings which might correlate with diabetes. Diabetics, in particular, are at risk for having vascular changes that can lead to leaking of blood and other fluid into your retina.
The retina is a tell-tale sign of how the other vasculature in your body might be also affected by diabetes. If you have bleeding spots in your eyes, there is a very good chance you may also have leaky blood vessels in your kidneys. Therefore, it is of critical importance for a diabetic patient to have a retinal exam at least once a year.
